That's the math I wish someone had shared with me when I first got started in sales, nearly 13 years ago. You can get everything else wrong, but get this right, and have a wildly profitable, low-stress business.

That's 3 conversations per day with complete strangers. 3 new relationships. 3 prospects per day that I feel confident I can do business with at "some point" in the future.

Now, notice I didn't use the word "today" here. Super important.

These folks are simply NOT ready to do business with me today. They don't know who I am. There is no trust. They don't owe me anything. It would be illogical to think otherwise.

The goal here is to have a productive, no-strings attached conversation with this individual to find out where they are today and where they want to be in the future. And more specifically, what's preventing them from getting there. That’s it.

Once the conversation is wrapped up, I add these notes to my CRM, set a task and follow up with them down the road. Seed planted.

I operate under the principle that I will eventually do business with every single person I speak with. Doesn't need to happen today. Doesn’t need to happen tomorrow. May not happen ever.

But it my head, I am most certainly going to be doing business with that person. It's only a matter of time.

This is the winning mindset.

Plant the seed. Water the seed. Fertilize the seed. Watch that seed grow. And when the timing is right, create a custom-fit, perfectly tailored solution to help that person solve his/her problem.

And the cherry on top? Glad you asked.

You see, happy customers bring you more customers. And let me tell you, this positive feedback loop is insanely powerful. Before you know it, you will have more business than you know what to do with.

The only reason why you would not be successful in this game is:

  1. You suck at math.

  2. You aren’t willing to do the work.
