That's the common sense math I wish someone had shared with me when I kicked off my sales career, nearly 13 years ago. You can get everything else wrong, but get this right, and build the rock-solid foundation for a highly profitable, low-stress business that stands the test of time.

That's 3 conversations per day with complete strangers. 3 new relationships. 3 prospects you feel confident about doing business with at "some point" in the future.

Now… notice I didn't use the word "today" here. Super important!

These folks are simply NOT ready to do business with you today. They don't know who you are. There is no trust. They don't owe you anything. It would be illogical to think otherwise. Don't be desperate!

The goal here is to have a productive, no-strings attached conversation with this particular individual to find out where they are today and where they want to be in the future. And more specifically, what's preventing them from getting there?

Add those notes to your CRM. Set a task. Follow up with them down the road. Seed planted. Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat. Over and over and over and over again. Stack your pipeline so fucking big that it literally is bursting at the seams with new business with every passing day.

And when the timing is right, present a perfectly tailored, custom-fit solution to help that person solve his/her problem. Yep, it is actually that easy.

Look, you must operate under the principle that you will eventually do business with every single person you speak with. Doesn't need to happen today. Doesn’t need to happen tomorrow. May not happen ever. But in your head, you are absolutely certain that you are going to be doing business with that person! It's only a matter of time.

You see, sales is about solving problems for people. The more problems you solve, the more money you make. The bigger the problem, the bigger the paycheck. This is the winning mindset.

And the cherry on top? Glad you asked.

You see, happy customers love to refer more customers. And let me tell you, this positive feedback loop is insanely powerful. Develop a reputation as a problem solver and before you know it, you will have more business than you know what to do with. You'll have to hire more people, build better systems, fail, fail, fail, fail… fail some more… fail again… And then you win. BIG.

The only reason(s) why you would not be successful in this game are:

  1. You suck at math.

  2. You aren’t willing to do the work.

I founded Helpful Sales 5 years ago to help business owners permanently solve their lead generation + conversion problems (with surgical precision). Do you have a problem within your own business? If so, I'd love to sit down with you to better understand your current situation and see if/how we can help.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to check out our corner of the Internet.
